Jamie Carragher in a recent chat on Sky Sports with John Terry revealed that Wayne Rooney told him about Manchester United players erupting in cheers after Liverpool beat Chelsea. This was during the 2006-07 season when all the three English clubs were in the Champions League Semis along with AC Milan. Liverpool beat Chelsea on penalties and eventual winners Milan beat United after a scintillating performance by Kaka.

On the Sky Sports show, Carragher while chatting with John Terry about the numerous times Liverpool and Chelsea faced in the Champions League revealed: “Wayne Rooney told me a story, I think it was 2007, we played you and I think they were playing Milan. And Milan ended up beating them but we must have played the night before.

“And Wayne Rooney told me when we won on penalties all the Man United [players] watching it together in the hotel erupted and cheered.

Chelsea were the dominant force in England during Jose’s first stint, and the Portuguese manager’s us vs them mentality created a lot of animosity with the rest of the league. United under Ferguson possibly endured their worst spell in the Premier League and Chelsea clearly got under their skin.
