According to The Express, Jose Mourinho has asked Manchester United to sign Brazilian midfielder Fred in the upcoming summer transfer window. With Michael Carrick set to retire at the end of the season and Marouane Fellaini likely to leave on a free transfer, United need midfield reinforcements. Manchester City were also reportedly interested in Fred, so United will face a transfer battle to sign the Brazilian. Gilberto Silva, who is Fred’s agent has indicated that the player is open to a transfer to the Premier League.

“At the moment we are open for the market and, when you see the whole market in football, the Premier League is one of the targets,”

“We had inquiries for him in the last transfer window, but it didn’t happen. The Premier League is his preferred destination.”

It will be another interesting transfer window for Manchester United fans as Jose Mourinho will try to strengthen again to challenge for the Premier League title next season. But even Manchester City is expected to again spend to acquire new players, so the more important task for Mourinho is to get the best out of his current players. It is clear that players like Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Alexis Sanchez, etc still have a lot more to give to United. Inconsistency has been United’s biggest problem this season and Mourinho can’t afford to repeat the same mistake again next season.
