Sky Sports claim that Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is Arsenal’s first choice signing to replace Alexis Sanchez, should the Chilean leave the club in January. The Sky Sports website cite Sky Italia as the source for this transfer news. Sky Italia are a Tier 2 transfer source in our Football Transfer Sources Reliability Guide.
Should Alexis Sanchez leave in January, Arsenal must immediately replace him. They were close to signing Thomas Lemar in the summer and might go back for him, but they will find it tough to buy in January. Aubameyang can play on the wings but he is best suited as a striker. Arsenal already have club record signing Alexander Lacazette and Olivier Giroud as their strikers so a move for Aubameyang won’t make sense. Lemar might be a more suitable buy but the stakes are against Arsenal buying him in January. Monaco will definitely not want to sell him now and if Coutinho moves to Barcelona, Liverpool will also be in for Lemar with considerably more financial might.
