Real Madrid start their Champions League campaign against minnows Apoel Nicosia at home. Real have had a disappointing start to their La Liga with Barcelona already ahead of them by 4 points. But the back to back winners in the Champions League have a chance to rewrite their own record if they manage to defend their European crown this season. Cristiano Ronaldo looks set to make his first start this season after he was given an extended break during the pre-season because of his commitments with Portugal in the Confederations Cup.

Gareth Bale has been off-color so far this season but the Welshman deserves more chances after his long battle with injuries. An easy game without pressure would be the perfect game for him to return to form. Many fans would like Marco Asensio to start over Bale, but Real Madrid need the Welshman to come good soon, especially with Karim Benzema seemingly in a decline.

Real Madrid’s group also has Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund making it the “Group of Death”. But everyone expects the Madrid giants to make it through leaving Spurs and Dortmund to fight it out for the second spot.
