Manchester United travel to Stoke this weekend in what will be their most difficult test of the season so far. Jose Mourinho’s team have made a perfect start so far scoring 10 goals and conceding none but many will point to the three easy fixtures they have had so far. Playing Stoke away is never easy and Mourinho is expected to make changes to the starting lineup for this tough fixture.

Nemanja Matic’s arrival has meant that last season’s Sir Matt Busby Player of the year award winner Ander Herrera has not gotten the chance to play even a single minute this season so far. We saw a glimpse of Mourinho’s approach to the big games this season in the Super Cup against Real Madrid. Herrera partnered Matic in midfield with Pogba playing in a more advanced role. This midfield setup is expected to continue in the big games with the overall formation either being the 4-3-3 or the 3-5-2. The 3-5-2 formation was extensively used in the pre-season. Take a look at the pros & cons of Jose Mourinho’s 3-5-2 formation in the below video.

Matteo Darmian is expected to replace Daley Blind although the Dutchman has been in good form this season as the Italian’s extra height will help United at the Britannia. Mourinho has to choose between Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford for the left wing position. With both of them having started the season well, this will be a touch decision for Mourinho but we expect him to go for the Frenchman. A win against Stoke who have already beaten Arsenal will boost the confidence levels even higher at Old Trafford as they prepare for tougher battles ahead.
