Bastian Schweinsteiger has been banished to the reserve team dressing room by Jose Mourinho as the Portuguese wants the German to find himself a new club. Daily Mail has reported that the ex-German captain has trained with the U-21s this week.

Schweinsteiger was a Van Gaal favourite as the German and the Dutch coach had previously been together at Bayern Munich. But the German struggled for fitness and has been a disastrous signing for Manchester United. Although the transfer didn’t cost much, the former Bayern Munich midfielder is on exorbitant wages for his age. Mourinho generally prefers a small squad and with the incoming transfer of Paul Pogba, there are an overload of central midfielders in the squad. Michael Carrick’s contract extension means that United already have an aging and slow midfielder who can slow down the tempo of the game when needed.

Manchester United face Leicester City this Sunday for the Community Shield in the season curtain raiser. This will be a big test for Jose Mourinho as he seeks a successful return to management.
