It is clear that Jose Mourinho likes to work with small squads and he is not a big fans of squad rotation. With Manchester United already having a bloated squad and with new signings to come in, Mourinho and Woodward have their work cut out to trim the squad. According to The Express, Mourinho has relegated Guillermo Varela and Tyler Blackett to the reserves.

Mourinho will clear out many other United players but it seems like he will take his time and that every player has a fair chance in impressing him in training. Juan Mata is one player who will have to work really hard to impress the manager as it was Jose Mourinho who sold Mata to Manchester United from Chelsea in the first place. Mourinho prefers a hard working and disciplined player as the number 10 which Juan Mata is not. It remains to be seen, whether Wayne Rooney features in the big games under Mourinho. Although it seems that Mourinho respects the United captain, the way Rooney has regressed for the past three years, it remains a doubt whether he will be first choice anymore.
