Harry Kane’s meteoric rise this season has seen him score 18 goals already this season. But along with his goal scoring prowess it is Kane’s intelligence and his awareness which make him standout. Carragher cites examples from Kane’s plays against Manchester United and Chelsea in the below video.
There have been many instances of young strikers in the Premier League having bursts of great goal scoring form but then later tailing off . But Kane along with his cool finishing ability boasts awareness and intelligence on the football pitch which few other players at his age have.
Comparing him to other strikers in the Premier League, one statistic which immediately stands out is the number of interceptions per game. Kane is easily better than Costa, Aguero and Van Persie as far as his pressing and his defensive work is concerned. He also plays the highest number of passes per game and the average pass length is also right there at the top. Also this season we have seen glimpses of his excellent finishing ability especially from distance. He generally coolly slots the ball past the goalkeeper instead of blasting it in.
