Jose Mourinho who desperately wanted to sign a central defender in the summer transfer window has again reached out to the club asking them to bid for Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly according to a report in Goal.com. Mourinho has repeatedly stated that United need to sign defensive reinforcements which were ignored by Ed Woodward for various reasons. Although, currently on United’s books are a plethora of central defenders, it looks like Mourinho doesn’t trust any of them. Two of the central defenders at United are Mourinho’s signings, Bailly and Lindelof, both of whom have struggled to establish themselves at Old Trafford.

Whether United’s board and their CEO, Ed Woodward will sanction the transfer or not, only time will tell. But speculation about Mourinho’s job has cooled off although, it would be a surprise if Mourinho is still United’s manager when the next season starts. Zinedine Zidane is the rumoured favorite to take up the job at Old Trafford.
