A sensational report in the English daily Express claims that Jose Mourinho has promised Cristiano Ronaldo the number 7 jersey if he makes to move to Manchester United this summer. Alexis Sanchez currently holds the legendary number 7 jersey at United but the Chilean will be forced to give it up if Ronaldo decides to move to United. Although, the Ronaldo to United rumours appear every summer, the Portuguese star’s refusal to commit his future to Madrid after the Champions League final have added fuel to the fire.

Although no club should turn down the opportunity to sign a star like Ronaldo, Manchester United already have a plethora of players who can play in similar positions. As Jose Mourinho is not a big fan of playing with 2 strikers, either Sanchez or Lukaku will find themselves on the bench if Cristiano does decide to return to Old Trafford. Although it will be a huge boost marketing wise to United, signing an aging star will surely hurt United’s footballing ambitions. Especially considering that, talented young players like Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford might have to leave the club in order to play more.
