After a humiliating defeat against Liverpool just before the international break, Arsenal face off against Bournemouth in the Premier League this weekend. The defeat against Liverpool was followed by a disastrous final day of the transfer window where Arsenal were not able to sign their prime target Thomas Lemar but at the same time held onto Alexis Sanchez. Although it was clear that the Chilean wanted a move to Manchester City, Arsenal were not prepared to let him go without signing a replacement first.

Against Liverpool at Anfield, Arsenal’s midfield was all over the place as Liverpool’s counter attacks repeatedly sliced through Arsenal. Wenger did change the formation at half time, moving away from the back 3 to a more conventional back 4 formation but the game was already done and dusted by then. In a recent article, we have looked at how Arsenal’s squad is not actually suited to a back 3 formation. So Wenger is expected to change to a 4-3-3 which will allow him to reinforce the midfield with an extra player.

Arsenal Predicted Lineup against Bournemouth

Playing with a 4-3-3 allows Ramsey a free role where he can join the attack more frequently without having to worry about defending. Ramsey’s positioning and his lack of defensive nous was a key reason in Arsenal’s defeat against Liverpool. Although at home against Bournemouth, Arsenal might not need the extra protection, Wenger can’t take any sort of a risk at the moment. Anything other than a win will put immense pressure on Wenger before the game against Chelsea next week.
