Manchester United’s first pre-season friendly is against Los Angeles Galaxy on 16th July 2017 at the Stubhub Center. With both the new signings Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku on the tour, United fans will get to see them both in action in the United States. We can expect a lot of substitutions during the game as Mourinho will look to give chance to everyone in the squad.
Let’s take a look at how the starting lineup might look like.
Jose Mourinho is expected to play with a 4-3-3 formation this season but United still need to buy a defensive midfielder to make that happen. With the Matic deal looking unlikely, Mourinho quickly needs to identify the right target for Ed Woodward. Sticking to last year’s template, Mourinho is expected to pick Pogba, Herrera and Fellaini in a three man midfield. Andreas Pereira is expected to be involved heavily during the pre season and his performances might determine his future at the club.
With Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Marcos Rojo out till at least December, the left back position is up for grabs. Although Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind at front runner for the role, Demetri Mitchell has a chance to make a mark.
It will certainly be an interesting pre-season tour for United as it will give us an idea on how Mourinho is planning to play next season. It will also determine the futures of some players.
