Chelsea have been dealt a severe blow in the transfer market with the Romelu Lukaku saga ending with the Belgian signing for Manchester United. Chelsea were Lukaku’s first choice, they are his former club and the best team in the country by a mile but still they were beaten by United. This clearly shows that the Manchester United brand is as strong as ever and how football has completely changed in the past few years. Although losing Lukaku is a severe blow, this might help Conte in getting a bigger transfer chest from the Chelsea board. Let’s take a look at three players who are better than Romelu Lukaku at the moment whom Antonio Conte can sign.
The Chilean is yet to sign a deal with Arsenal and although there have been rumours that Arsenal won’t let him go even if he doesn’t sign an extension a transfer is always possible. If Sanchez doesn’t sign a new contract, will the Arsenal board say no to a massive offer? Sanchez can play anywhere across the front three and has easily adapted when asked to lead the line.
Another interesting dynamic of the Sanchez saga is if City managed to sign him, where does it leave Sergio Aguero. Guardiola has clearly indicated that he prefers Gabriel Jesus over Aguero and if they do sign Sanchez, how will they fit them all? Surely, Aguero, one of the best Premier League strikers ever won’t be happy sitting on the bench.
Pierre Emerick Aubameyang
Surprisingly the Dortmund striker has not been subject to much speculation this summer but Dortmund always sell when the offer is big enough. Aubameyang is lethal on the counter and will fit Chelsea’s style although Conte might prefer someone more physical. It’s not always easy to adapt to the Premier League’s style.
