Daniel Agger, the defender currently playing for Liverpool in the Premiership has admitted in a newspaper article that he would find a move to Barcelona difficult to turn down. Barca have been surprisingly inactive in the transfer market so far this summer, but speculation both in the news media and on sports betting and online casino websites continues to link them with a number of potential signings – including Agger. For those considering having a bet on whether Agger will be playing his football at the Nou Camp in the coming season, it is worth bearing in mind that the Barca winger Cristian Tellos is rumoured to be heading in the opposite direction.
Negotiations between the defender and Liverpool over a new contract for him have been ongoing for months but are believed to have reached a deadlock and new Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has suggested that he would be willing to countenance a sale. The club that Agger has been most closely linked with a move to throughout the summer has been big spending Manchester City, but the Liverpool player has indicated that he would not be keen on a switch to Eastlands; which stands in distinct contrast to the enthusiasm he showed for a move to Barca in an interview in the Daily Mail website:
“There is one club that would make it very difficult for me to stay at Anfield. Barcelona would be great, because they are the best in the world.”
Agger went on to affirm that he was content to remain at Anfield if a move to the Nou Camp was not forthcoming, but he appears adamant that – despite interest in him from a number of top clubs, including Barca’s arch rivals Real Madrid, as well as Premier League champions Manchester City – there is only one club that could prise him away from Liverpool and that is the team from Catalonia.
